2017 European Junior Round 2 Recap

Round 2 Recap:

European Junior

September 9, 2017

Players could not have asked for more perfect conditions for Rd. 2 of the European Junior a World Junior Golf Series event at the Golfclub München Eichenried in Munich, Germany. After a night of heavy rain players were treated to sunny skies, very little wind and temperatures in the mid 70’s. Rd. 2 say some of the leaders from Rd. 1 separate themselves from the field to take the lead alone. In the boys division Rd. 1 leader Paul Julian Holler continued to impress with his second straight 3 under 70. Holler is currently at 6 under with a five shot lead going into the final round. Round 2 also had two players move up the leader board with rounds of 1 under 72. Sascha Derp shot a 1 under to move up to 2nd and Moritz Lammel also moved up to into a tie for 3rd after a 1 under round highlighted by 5 birdies. Moritz Lammel on his 1 under Rd.2 “I had a good round today, I had 4 birdies on the front 9 and was able to overcome some bogeys on the back 9 with a birdie on the final hole, I feel like if I continue to hit the ball well I have a chance to make up some strokes on the leader”

In the girls division, first round leader Anni Eisenhut took control with a 1 under 72 in round 2. Anni played well with 5 birdies on her round to take a 2 shot lead on the field. Moving up the leader board was Nathalie Irlbacher. Nathalie improved on her round 1 score by also shooting a round 2 low score of 1 under 72. Nathalie score helped move her into 2nd place for the tournament, a place she is very familiar with after finishing 2nd last year at the European Junior. We spoke with Irlbacher after Rd. 2 I played well today, I was making putts and felt very confident, I am going to stay patient in the final round and hope to continue to play well.” With only 2 shots separating the top two players, we are looking forward to an exciting final round in the girls division.

As round 2 completed the players had an opportunity to relax and get to know each other at the players night dinner. The dinner was a fun time and a great chance for the players to just forget about golf and meet some new people.

The final round will begin at 8:00 am, as many players will look to finish strong. You can follow all the hole-by-hole action by visiting www.wjgs.org for results.
