2017 European Junior Round 1 Recap

Conditions were ideal at the Golfclub München Eichenried in Munich, Germany for the start of the 2017 European Junior a World Junior Golf Series Event. Round 1 produced some great scores in both the boys and girls divisions. In the girls division First Round leaders Nina Lang and Anni Eisenhut both finished at Even Par. Nina Lang began her day shooting 3 over 39 on the front 9 but began her back 9 with a birdie 2 on the par 3-10 hole, followed up with 2 more birdies on the back nine to shoot Even Par 73. Co leader Anni Eisenhut played a similar round starting 3 over par through her first 10 holes, only to finish with 3 birdies as well for an Even Par 73. Commenting on Round 1 Anni Eisenhut said “ To start the day I was struggling with my putter, but on the back 9 the putts started to drop. I feel comfortable with my game and look forward to continuing to play well in Round 2.” Also in the girls division, tied for 3rd place, is Nathalie Irbacher at 2 over. Nathalie also played in the 2016 European Junior were she finished in 2nd Place.


In the boys division 2 players are tied for the lead after shooting an opening round of 3 under par 70. Florian Moosmeier who finished in a tie for 4th place in the 2016 European Junior, continued to play well as he recovered from a double bogey on the par 4- 4th hole with 6 birdies highlighted with 4 birdies in his last 5 holes. Florian will look to use this momentum going into round 2. Also tied for 1st place is Paul Julian Holler. Paul Julian was able to play well all day with 2 under on his front 9 followed by 1 under on the back 9. Paul Julian spoke about his play in round 1 “I have really enjoyed this tournament so far. I started the day with a bogey on 2 but was able to get 3 straight birdies on holes 4-6. The course is in really good condition and I am hitting the ball really well. I hope to play well in round 2.” In 3rd place Philip Appelmann finished at 2 under par just 1 stroke back from the leaders.


At the completion of Round 1 was Education Night at the European Junior. Players were treated to a traditional Bavarian Style dinner and followed by a presentation on Game Improvement from guest speaker Tom Burnett of the Tom Burnett Golf Academy. Round 2 conditions look to continue as competitors look to improve on there round 1 scores.
